What theme developers get out of it is a fast, searchable database. When they make an icon for your favorite app (the one you've been waiting for since you installed their theme), instead of jumping through hoops to find the right name for the image file, they just go to the web site, search for the name of the app, and find the correct name for the icon e.g. com_google_android_maps_latitudeactivity.png
