Gamelan DJ is application made for fun and entertainment. Gamelan DJ combined both traditional (gamelan-saron) and modern (DJ deck). With simple layout, this application you can mix and mash tight beats, harmonies and melodies of saron. By touching beats pad mix with acapella & making lead with saron gamelan. Once you touch the pad controller the fun and intuitive workflow takes over, allowing you to stay focusing on playing music.

Gamelan is one of the arts that originated from Indonesia. The word “Gamelan” derived from the word Gamel which means Gavel in Javanese. Gavel becomes important in Gamelan because it is the main tool to play the Saron Instrument in Gamelan Orchestra as the lead melody or in Javanese it is called Balungan.

Along with its development/growth/progress, Gamelan music often combined with other musical instruments which later formed the diversity of the gamelan music. One of the instrument that we tried to combine is modern music instrument which oftentimes used by the Djs.

This point then become the basis idea for the formation of Gamelan DJ, which a blend of traditional and modern elements in a single application. Gamelan DJ is made with the aim to provide new experience that is fun and entertaining also at the same time continue to introduce gamelan music to the world community. With layout like DJ decks, combined with the Saron pelog as the rythmic instrument, Gamelan DJ present a new way to play the gamelan music.

This application is made as easy as possible to play, because, besides it is intended to entertain and introduce Gamelan publicly, it is also give the viewpoint which something that traditional does not necessarily lags when combined with something that is modern and easy to understand.

A new and fun way to play Gamelan and DJ deck at the same time and the combination between local or traditional element with modern element becomes the strength of this application. With two Java traditional songs, which are Gundul-Gundul Pacul and Suwe Ora Jamu, the users of Gamelan Dj could remix it with modern beats but still with gamelan rhythmic that comes out from existing Saron instrument.
